New Jersey Senate Bill 1411, "The Fertilizer Bill"
Here are the highlights from the bill:
There will be a blackout period where no fertilizer may be applied before March 1 and after November 15.
There will mandatory buffers around any water body where ferlizer may not be applied.
There will be an annual cap on how much Nitogen can be applied to any turf area of 4.25lbs/1000sf.
There will be a per application Nitrogen cap of .75lbs/1000sf and 30% of that nitrogen MUST be slow release.
There will be a mandatory certification process for ANY PROFESSIONAL who applies ferilizer.
This bill stands to have dramatic impact to many small and medium landscape businesses operating in New Jersey! The bill is intended to help improve water quality, but there is a lack of sound science to support its initiatives.

What is NJNLA doing?
The NJNLA feels that legislation in this area could have long term beneficial effects on the environment and water quality provided it is well thought out and based on science. This current bill as written will cripple many business while having no effect on improving water quality in NJ. We are activley work with both state departments, lobby groups, and other green industry groups and professionals to change this bill and oppose it if necessary.
